In 2007, we had a case in the District of Columbia whereby a homestead audit performed on a property simultaneously with our closing resulted in a property tax lien in the amount of over $30,000. The seller had relocated to the west coast and the buyer was left with a major title problem. The owner’s policy stepped in and paid the tax lien amount and attempted to recover from the seller.
